The kitchen is the heart of your household

Remember: The kitchen is the heart of every household. It's the place where your family and friends gather to cook, eat, spend time together, or discuss life's issues. It's therefore important to us that your kitchen is not only functional and aesthetically pleasing, but also designed for everyday use in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way. In this blog post, we'd like to take a closer look at the topic of sustainability in the kitchen and offer you a few tips on how to make your kitchen more sustainable.

We call it: Sustainable Design.

In addition to design, a sustainable kitchen should be functional first and foremost, as you'll be using it every day. Whether it's a quick cup of tea or coffee in your home office between meetings or a quick sandwich before heading out with the kids, this means the kitchen should be designed to meet your needs first and foremost. This also includes a sensible room layout and good organization of your kitchen utensils—we affectionately call them "kitchen accessories."

Now we come to the real thing – and that's exactly what defines us as the brand nordesign: In addition to functionality, a sustainable kitchen today should also be aesthetically pleasing. Because only if your kitchen is visually appealing will you spend time with your loved ones and enjoy cooking, eating, or relaxing in it.

Everything we do today should be based on sustainability. This is why the materials used in your kitchen accessories are important. Especially in the kitchen, many disposable and environmentally harmful products are used that you can easily avoid in everyday life.

One example of this is the conventional sponges you find in most supermarkets. These are often made of plastic, wrapped in plastic wrap, and are non-recyclable. Furthermore, they are often treated with chemicals that can leach into wastewater when washed, thus polluting the environment.

Sustainable alternatives include sponges made from natural materials such as cellulose or cotton. These are biodegradable and can therefore be easily composted after use. We've spent a long time developing these sponges and, in addition to stylish natural sponge cloths, have launched a highly absorbent pop-up sponge. These versions are completely biodegradable. Our sustainable scouring sponge alternative, the "Coconut Sponge," contains a light plastic component that holds the cellulose side and the scouring side together. You can purchase the sponge at dm-drogerie markt stores throughout Germany since April of this year. :-)

Of course, there are also sustainable alternatives for dishwashing detergent. Conventional dishwashing detergents often contain harsh chemicals that not only pollute the environment but can also be harmful to health. A sustainable alternative is dishwashing detergents made from natural ingredients. These are biodegradable and can therefore be safely disposed of in wastewater.
